HADES Reissue
Analog Bass Synthesizer

Hades is back—a versatile, compact, semi-modular bass synthesizer with deep and dark sound. This all-analog bass synthesizer is a faithful reproduction of the 2016 Hades. Focusing on the ease of use and intuitive controls, Hades offers a warmth and depth of true analog synthesis experience.

Hades features a Super Fat Oscillator for rich, powerful tones, complemented by 2x Sub Octaves to deliver extra headroom and depth. A Special Internal Bass Boost Circuit enhances low-end frequencies, while the Warm Filter smooths out the sound for a classic analog feel. For those craving intensity, the built-in Drive Effect adds aggressive, gritty character! Designed in a compact and Eurorack compatible format (42HP), it is powered via USB, offering an affordable option that unlocks endless creative possibilities.

Back in time, after the great overthrow of the Titan Cronus, the world was divided among three powerful brothers—Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Each claimed their realm, shaping the fate of all who lived and died. Zeus ruled the heavens, Poseidon claimed the seas, and Hades was granted dominion over the underworld—a shadowy kingdom where souls journeyed after their time on earth had passed. In his dark, silent realm, Hades became the embodiment of the inevitable cycle of existence. He was a force not only to be feared but also to be respected—a reminder that life and death were two sides of the same coin, forever entwined in the mysteries of the afterlife.

Features:

  • Pure Analog Signal Path: Delivers classic, warm, and aggressive analog bass tones.
  • Triple-Voice Low End: Combines one main oscillator with two simultaneous sub-oscillators.
  • 18dB/Octave Lowpass Filter: Uses a unique 3-pole OTA design for gritty resonance.
  • Built-in OTA Distortion: Adds hard-clipping drive optimized for bass frequencies.
  • Eurorack Compatible: Functions as a desktop unit or a 42HP modular synth.
  • Flexible Patch Matrix: Offers 11 patch points for advanced modulation and routing.
  • USB Powered: Runs efficiently off standard USB power sources.

Controls:

Oscillator and Sub-Oscillators
The Hades oscillator needs about 2 to 3 minutes to warm up. You can just turn on the synth and play, but the tuning will change during that time. It work with the classic 1v/octave controllers or a midi source. By default the tune knob should point at about 12.00 o’clock for a correct tuning.

1. TUNE - Tunes the master pitch of the main oscillator.
2. OSC Wave - Selects between Sawtooth or Square waveforms.
3. SUB1 - Sets the volume of the first sub-oscillator (-1 octave).
4. SUB2 -Sets the volume of the second sub-oscillator (-2 octaves).
5. GLIDE: Adjusts the portamento speed between notes.

Filter
The filter of the Hades is a 3-pole 18db/octave resonating OTA based low pass filter. Its frequency ranges from 20Hz up to 20KHz.

1. FREQ - Adjusts the cutoff frequency of the 18dB/oct lowpass filter.
2. RESONANCE - Increases the emphasis at the cutoff frequency.

Drive
Hades has an Opamp - OTA drive circuit that is able to drive - and works best at - low and rich harmonic frequencies . It is a fairly simple 1 knob function. Its action is not linear, but it has a logarithmic response.

1. DRIVE - Adjusts the intensity of the built-in analog OTA distortion circuit.

Amplifier
Hades’s amplifier has a build in AR envelope generator. Notice that when the output Level is at max you get 8 Volts p/p, so be careful not to hurt your ears or damage your speakers.

1. LEVEL - Controls the final 8V p/p output level.
2. A (Attack) - Sets how fast the sound fades in when a note is pressed.
3. R (Release) - Sets how long the sound rings out after the note is released.

Envelope
Hades’s AD/RS is dedicated to the Filter. It may deliver up to 5V of Envelope (also accessible on a patch).

1. A (Attack) - Controls the Attack speed. It determines how fast the filter opens up to its maximum level after a note is triggered.
 2. D/R (Decay/Release) - Controls the Decay and Release speed. It adjusts the duration of both the decay phase (while holding a note) and the release phase (after letting go) simultaneously.
3. S (Sustain) - Sets the Sustain point. This dictates the fixed, steady level the filter stays at for as long as you keep holding a note down.
4. LEVEL - Controls the Envelope Level. This is the master depth knob that determines how drastically the entire envelope pattern modulates the filter's cutoff frequency.
5. D/D&R - The toggle switch that selects between Decay or Decay and Release behavior.

  • D&R: The D/R slider dictates both the decay and the release times.
  • D: The release stage is ignored; the filter drops to zero instantly when the key is released.

LFO

The LFO needs to be patched in order to be used. It has a wide range of frequencies, from 10 minutes up to 3kHz (3000 Hz).

1. RATE - Sets the cycle frequency (speed) of the continuous triangle waveform.
2. DEPTH - Sets the Depth of the modulation. On the Hades RE hardware panel, the physical attenuator knob used to scale the LFO's depth is labeled MOD WHEEL.

Patching

OUTPUTS:
Those patch points only send voltage. You can send their CV to other devices, but first be sure that the receiver can accept such a voltage.

1. ENV - Sends the envelope’s voltage in a 0-5V level.
2. LFO - Sends the LFO’s voltage in a +/- 5V level.
3. MOD - Sends the modulation wheel into a 0-5V format. The small knob is an attenuator for the total amount.
4. 1V/OCT - Sends the Pitch’s tracking.

INPUTS:
Those patch points only receive voltage. It is safe to send more voltage than indicated (up to +/- 10V), but this does not mean that you get a result.

1. PW - Controls the oscillator’s pulse width (+/- 5V)
2. VCF - Controls the filter’s frequency (+/- 5V)
3. VCA - Controls the Amp’s level. (0-5V) By inserting a cable will deactivate the AR envelope.
4. CV - Controls the oscillator’s pitch (+/- 10V)
5. GATE - Controls the gate’s activation (0-5V)

INTERFACE:

1. OUT - Master Output of the synthesizer. It can also be connected with headphones.
2. MIDI - Midi Input. Always use the dedicated midi adapter, which is included in the box.
